Columbia Pike, Arlington's original Main Street, is a bohemian mix of the old and new, the down-home, and around–the–globe that truly represents Arlington's diversity.
Classic art deco buildings, small-scale, specialty retail, mid–rise office space, friendly sidewalks, and Arlington's greatest concentration of ethnic restaurants make the Pike a unique living and working experience. And, like someone once said: "You ain't seen nothing yet." There are big plans for Columbia Pike. Millions of dollars in capital improvements are preserving the
Pike's urban feel, and a comprehensive plan for growth will provide incentives for new retail, residential, and commercial development.
The Pike feeds traffic to several large federal government agencies (most notably the Pentagon) and more than 40,000 commuters travel on it every day. Direct bus routes link Columbia Pike with the Ballston and Pentagon Metrorail stations. But the Pike isn't all business. More than 70,000 citizens live in the surrounding tree-lined neighborhoods – several of which are Arlington's most established – making it the largest of Arlington's economic submarkets.
